I was relying on my ability to avoid sketchy crapware when installing programs, but theirs was exceptionally smart and as soon as I started the installation my PC got full of crapware and I spent 4 hours with adware and junk removal tools, uninstalling and reinstalling chrome and Firefox for all users and setting them up again. I will never install that software again and strongly discourage anyone who was thinking to. This is on page 1 in Google, so to people who are looking a way to remove their crap I suggest downloading adwcleaner and junk removal tool from bleepingcomputer's website, run them and let them do their job, uninstall all browsers and reinstall them, then run ccleaner and do a clean run+registry run, then reboot. Just loading an older version didn't work for me. I've used JDownloader for years without a problem.

Got a new laptop, carefully loaded latest version of JD and it introduced malware ('Search Know Ads', and kept switching my homepage to Yahoo). Tried everything to get rid of it - in the end, I did a factory reset on my laptop. Reloaded all software one-by-one until it became obvious that JD was the problem. Found this website which confirmed it. Thought I'd be clever and use the installer exe file that I still had on my old laptop from a couple of years ago which Norton said was completely safe. BUT.I immediately got a Norton warning that it had blocked JD from trying to install a Trojan, and that there had been' suspicious outgoing traffic'.

So, even though I was using the old installation software which I'd not had a problem with previously, it was sending out to the JD website to download 'something else'. I did try installing it whilst disconnected from the internet but the installation just hung so I've wiped all traces of it from my laptop and will try IDM instead.
