John: I intentionally avoided installing the 'Apple Software Update' component of the iTunes+QuickTime installer package (v10.4 iTunes w/ v7.6.9 QuickTime) by following this procedure: Now when I attempt to update QuickTime from within QuickTime (7.6.9), or from WinXP Control Panel> QuickTime, it says new version 7.7 is available but it then takes me to webpage that STILL lists version 7.6.9 of QuickTime!! Thinking that maybe Apple had simply 'forgotten' to update the version number on that webpage, I went ahead and downloaded the QT package, but when I unpacked that installer (using WinRAR), I see that indeed the downloaded package itself is indeed v7.6.9. So at the moment, even though Apple 8/3/2011 announced & QuickTime claims to provide the new v7.7, in fact Apple is serving up old version 7.6.9. If anyone figures out how/where to actually get v7.7 for Windows (WITHOUT the bloated 'Apple Software Updater' component), please post here.
I just re-check the QuickTime Player download page today (Aug 6, 2011) at and it correctly downloaded the v. 7.70.80.34 installation file. Download isobuster for mac. I noticed on the same download page that iTunes v. 10.4 is still being bundled with the old v. 7.69 QuickTime installer. There are a few posts in this forum where people reported that they had problems with their iTunes for Windows after upgrading to QuickTime Player v. 7.70, so please keep this in mind if you run the QuickTime update.

7.69.80.9 QuickTime Player. I have no idea what's going on. When I downloaded v. 7.70.80.34 this morning, the radio button on the download page was clearly labeled as 'QuickTime 7.7.0 for Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7' and the file properties show that I indeed downloaded the v. 7.70.80.34 installation file. ----------------- Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit SP2 * iTunes v. 10.4.0.80 * QuickTime Player 7.69.80.9.
Download Quicktime 7.7.6
Yesterday thanks to CarolFromHazlet's link to TechSpot (one of my favorite websites, btw) I did get Quicktime v7.7.80.34 installed on my old WinXP box without any problems. And unlike sooooo many other problem threads here at 'iTunes for Windows', iTunes 10.4.0.60 runs just fine for me (whew). What's going on.' With the Apple download webpage being now reverted back to old QT v7.69.80.9, I can only hazard some guesses- None of which are complimentary to the 'Geniuses' at Apple. A year ago (& earlier), whenever I'd launch (then-current versions) iTunes and/or QuickTime, they would lockout ALL Windows graphical interface functions (mouse freeze, no screen draws, static clock display, etc.), as I reported in this forum -> I never got ANY useful solution from Apple or other users. Fortunately WinXP hadn't crashed & I could still do controlled shutdowns vis keyboard (Start>Shutdown) albeit with NO actions diplayed on scree.

For that reason (& several more important reasons), I subsequently did a full reformat + re-install of WinXP (+ the hundreds of Windows updates), re-installed many programs & restored data files, and now that XPSP3 box runs great. That's some consolation for the DAYS I had to spend rebuilding that PC - Thanks alot Apple Geniuses. Windows XP Pro 32-bit SP3 * iTunes v. 10.4.0.80 * QuickTime Player 7.7.80.34, dual-boot PCLinuxOS2011. Just FYI, users in the Secunia PSI forum are also reporting the same problem downloading the QuickTime 7.70 update from the Apple website in the thread at. I ran a security scan of my PC with my PSI software, and it lists my current QuickTime v.
